Diversions
Walkers, hikers and anyone on non-motorized wheels
can use the community trails. Highlands Ranch also boasts several
state-of-the-art recreation centers. Amenities include swimming
pools indoor running tracks and climbing walls.
On a grander scale, the Rockies, about 10 miles
and 20 minutes to the west via surface streets and freeway, offer
an almost endless variety of recreation.
Chatfield Reservoir, popular with boaters and
fishing enthusiasts, is nearby in the Chatfield Lake State Recreation
Area. Park Meadows, an upscale shopping mall designed in the Craftsman
style, is nearby.
Transportation
Interstate 25, which runs on the east side of
Highlands Ranch, takes commuters north to the Denver Tech Center,
a four-mile/15-minute trip. Downtown Denver is about 12 miles/30
minutes north on I25 but is congested during rush hour.
University Boulevard takes commuters and shoppers
north for the 10 miles/30 minute trip to the upscale Cherry Creek
Shopping District and another three miles/five minutes to downtown
Denver.
The new state highway, C470, loops south of Denver
to Highlands Ranch and in 10 Miles/15 minutes connects to Interstate
70, the major entrance to the Rockies west of Denver. Eastbound,
the toll road, E470, loops north to link with Interstate 70 on
the east side of town and offers a 20-mile/30-minute commute to
Denver International Airport.
The new light rail system will take commuters
and shoppers from its current terminus about a mile north of Highlands
Ranch's northwest corner to downtown Denver in about half an hour.

Schools
Douglas County School District, the fastest growing
school district in the nation, has earned a good reputation serving
Highlands Ranch with 11 elementary schools, two middle schools
and two high schools.
Six charter schools exist in the district, including
the Core Knowledge Charter School. The 17 preschools include a
special education preschool that serves as a model training site
for the state.
Highlands Ranch is one of the most successful
planned communities in the nation. The master plan for the community
was approved in 1979 which included 13,000 acres approved for
open space, parks, trails, and community facilities.
In addition to convenience, Highlands ranch
has been designed as a full service community. Two private schools,
13 elementary, 2 middle, and two high schools serve the community
with additional schools still in the planning phase. Health care
is also within arms reach including medical offices, specialty
facilities, and hospitals. The community also features many groups,
organizations, and churches. Services abound in Highlands Ranch
and becoming a part of the community is as easy as a phone call.
Highlands Ranch also offers various communities
